Lecturer in English (with focus on GCSE & Functional Skills) (Truro)
Start date: End of August 2025
Interviews will be scheduled as suitable applications are received, so the role may close earlier than the advertised date.
We seek a vibrant and committed lecturer capable of inspiring students and fostering excellent relationships within a successful English and Languages team. The candidate should deliver high-quality teaching, possess a relevant teaching qualification, and be dedicated to providing an outstanding learning experience.
The role involves teaching GCSE and Functional Skills English to students who did not achieve a grade 3 in GCSE English. There may be opportunities to teach other courses such as A Level and IB, but the primary focus is supporting resit learners to pass English, enabling more future options. Currently, over 500 learners, including adults in part-time evening classes, are taught GCSE or Functional Skills English, making this a significant department focus.
Ideal candidates will have the confidence to support and motivate potentially reluctant learners, be team players, and have a genuine enthusiasm for English.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification and a recognized teaching qualification.
Interviews are likely to be held during the week commencing on or before 9th June 2025.
*Salary is based on a qualified lecturer scale. Non-qualified applicants will be considered but paid on a non-qualified scale.
Benefits include 40 days annual leave plus bank holidays and college closure days, a teacher pension scheme, relocation package, free on-site parking, and various on-site benefits and discounts.
Closing date: 12 noon, Monday, 2 June 2025.
Applications should be submitted via application forms only; CVs are not accepted.
Successful candidates will be notified within four weeks of the closing date.
