Southwark Education Welfare Officer, South London

Pay rate £30.01 per hour

Contract role – Early Help

Pertemps is recruiting an experienced Southwark Education Welfare Officer in South London. Candidates should have relevant experience in a similar role within a Local Authority.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Providing an effective education inclusion service within Southwark’s Family Early Help service, supporting children, young people, and families.
  2. Collaborating with parents, young people, and schools to ensure all children of compulsory school age access education, with a focus on promoting attendance and preventing exclusions.
  3. Supporting schools and families to prevent permanent exclusions, including managed moves and developing multi-agency plans.
  4. Delivering statutory responsibilities related to attendance and inclusion, including parental responsibility measures up to prosecution for persistent non-attendance.
  5. Conducting screening and assessments for at-risk young people, ensuring early support and intervention.
  6. Investigating attendance issues and providing expert advice to schools and social workers, preparing cases for legal proceedings.
  7. Leading education legal planning meetings and representing cases in magistrates and family courts under the Education Act (1996).
  8. Assisting in locating children missing education and ensuring timely access to education in line with CME protocols.
