Whitehall Resources requires a Network Technical SME to work with a key client on a 6-month initial contract.
*This role involves full-time on-site work in Leamington Spa.
*Inside IR35.
The Role
The Network Technical SME will be responsible for network incident management, leading to resolve P1/P2 tickets/calls, introducing service improvements, creating and updating process and architecture documents, and ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability. This role requires extensive knowledge of networking technologies, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to advise on best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Possess network maturity with good knowledge of routing, switching, wireless, DNS, Firewalls, load balancers, SDWAN, Cloud, etc.
- CCIE certified or CCNP (Routing & Switching, with a path to CCIE) with additional certifications in other network domains.
- Quick learner with understanding of end-to-end customer network environment, architecture, network elements, and services.
- Understand ITIL framework and hold ITIL v3/v4 certification.
- Effectively manage P1/P2 and other technical calls related to networks.
- Focus on learning new network technologies and their implementation.
- Thorough understanding of BAU SLA/KPIs and contractual obligations related to Incident management.
- Own and drive Problem Management for P1/P2 issues to ensure timely closure and prevent repeats.
- Maintain details of network vendors for support arrangements.
- Create a virtual WAR room database with Architecture, SOP Documents, Contacts, etc.
- Utilize network tools proactively to maximize benefits during P1/P2 incidents.
- Contribute to service improvements and innovations to reduce P1/P2 incidents.
- Collaborate with Networks BAU and Projects teams for information gathering.
- Create and update network diagrams and architecture documents.
- Develop end-to-end traffic flow documentation for applications.
- Mitigate risks associated with P1/P2 issues and submit risk mitigation plans.
- Serve as SPOC and face to customer and service management teams for critical issues.
- Maintain good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Focus on service improvement with positive energy and an energetic attitude.
- Work as a team player with network and other technical teams.
- Maintain a customer-first mindset and support service continuity.
- Act as the primary technical authority for network infrastructure.
- Work 5 days a week from the office, with readiness to travel as needed.
- Take ownership and drive major incidents to resolution.
- Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
- Proficient in using network sniffer tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds, etc.) for traffic analysis.
- Hands-on experience with network security, firewalls, VPNs, and access control policies.
- Monitor network performance proactively and troubleshoot issues.
- Collaborate with other IT teams.
- Oversee network upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning.
- Maintain documentation of network configurations, policies, and procedures.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance.
- Follow processes and initiatives to ensure quality delivery.
- Initiate and lead service improvement initiatives to enhance network delivery.
Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
- Minimum 10-12 years of hands-on networking experience.
- CCIE preferred (Routing & Switching or Data Center), CCNP with L3 expertise required.
- Expertise in routing and switching (Cisco, Fortinet).
- Experience with network security solutions (firewalls, IDS/IPS).
- Knowledge of Load Balancers (F5).
- Knowledge of DNS/DHCP, HPOV NNMi, Catalyst Center Infrastructure.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues and ensure high availability.
- Excellent communication skills for leading troubleshooting calls.
- ITIL certification and experience in troubleshooting complex application/architecture issues.
