Job description

Whipps Cross University Hospital Emergency Care and Acute Medicine Clinical Academic Group is seeking a Consultant Luminal Gastroenterologist.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time (1 WTE) luminal gastroenterologist at Whipps Cross Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, one of Britain's leading healthcare providers and the largest NHS trust. Established on 1 April 2012, Barts Health NHS Trust was formed by merging three trusts: Barts and The London NHS Trust, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust, and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. Main duties of the job

The post holder will support inpatient and outpatient care for patients with general Gastroenterology issues. The role includes developing interventional endoscopy services such as EMR, ESD, colonic stenting, and bowel cancer screening, with an interest in general Hepatology encouraged. The post involves participation in MDTs for HPB and General Gastroenterology, as well as X-ray and pathology meetings. The role includes joining our gastroenterologists on the general medical rota (weekday shifts, no weekends), performing endoscopies, and participating in the GI Bleed rota. During 'consultant of the week,' scheduled activities are canceled to cover inpatient wards (approximately 22 beds) and gastro referrals, including triaging suspected cancer and advice/referral guidance. The department manages a high volume of cases, seeing 8,000 outpatients, performing 7,000 endoscopic procedures, and admitting 500 patients annually. It offers services in nutrition, diagnostic/therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel disorders, and participates in national screening programs.
