Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer

Perm, GBP35k to GBP42k pa DOE, 40hrs per week, Mon to Fri

BARNSLEY

I am looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to work for one of my clients, an innovative and exciting engineering company based in Barnsley.

Your role as the Mechanical Design Engineer will involve handling the company's design and development of both new and existing products and projects. You will have to be hands-on in your approach, liaising and working alongside the manufacturing team in the workshop and assisting in other areas of the business where required.

Day-to-day tasks will include:

  1. Producing concept design ideas
  2. Producing detailed technical drawings and 3D CAD models
  3. Analysing customer requirements to create accurate parts and component lists
  4. Reviewing drawings and preparing drawing documentation
  5. Reverse engineering of certain products where required
  6. Communicating with team members from various departments including production and sheet metal
  7. Adhering to all health and safety rules and procedures

To be successful, you must have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, HNC, or be apprentice trained with proven experience within the industry. Other key skills required:

  1. Experience using Solidworks is essential
  2. Knowledge of Hypermill CAD/CAM software would be beneficial
  3. Production of engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and technical files
  4. Automotive industry experience would be advantageous but not essential
  5. Ability to present designs to customers
  6. Preparing BOMs
  7. Creative mind with good problem-solving skills

You will be required to work 40hrs per week, 8am to 5pm from Mon to Fri. Most holidays are set for the company shutdown and include the first week of May, 2 weeks in August, a week at Christmas, and bank holidays.
