Job description

Job Description

We're looking for a Building Surveying Lead to join our Consultancy Project Services team based nationwide. Within this role, you can enjoy competitive annual holiday entitlement with opportunities to buy/sell leave, a fantastic, matched pension scheme, a share in the success you help to create by investing in Kier through our Sharesave and Share Incentive Plans, and even more.

Location: Nationwide - with remote working available. The role requires regular travel to visit staff based in Speke (near Liverpool), Lincoln, Maple Cross, and Waterbeach (near Cambridge), as well as various Kier and client sites nationwide.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week – some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Salary: £60,000 to £70,000 plus £6,700 car allowance per annum.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Building Surveying Lead, you'll be leading our team of building surveyors in providing building surveying services to both internal and external clients (with the latter drawn from both the public and private sectors). These services include maintenance, repair, refurbishment, remodelling, restoration, extension, or demolition works to existing buildings. The role includes managing and providing technical leadership to our team, maintaining and developing client relationships, and undertaking business development activities.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Line management of Building Surveying staff, either as direct or indirect reports, allocating workload, and managing their achievement of target billable utilization levels while personally delivering complex or high-profile building surveying projects.
  • Project managing the delivery of building surveying services to internal or external clients, focusing on service quality and internal management of Kier's commissions.
  • Undertaking business development, maintaining positive relationships with existing clients, managing accounts where building surveying is the key service, identifying new clients, and winning work.
  • Managing the growth of the Building Surveying team, including collaborating with recruitment to bring in suitable new staff.

What are we looking for?

This role is suitable if you:

  • Hold full membership of RICS as a Building Surveyor, and Chartered status, or equivalent professional body membership with relevant chartered status. You also need a full driving license and demonstrate leadership, motivation, influencing, and communication skills, along with extensive building surveying experience across various building types and sectors, ideally from both public and private sectors.
  • Have strong contract administration skills, experience with JCT and NEC contracts, good project management skills, commercial awareness, procurement knowledge (especially in the public sector), and proficiency in NBS Chorus and AutoCAD software.
  • Bring personal energy and ambition, with a desire to lead and grow a team of building surveyors.

We welcome transferrable skills! Even if you don't meet every requirement, please apply, and we'll have a chat.
