Job description

Residential Support Worker who has excellent communication skills and empathetic ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with women returning to the community from prison is required to work in a Criminal Justice Approved Premises for a well-established organisation based in Bristol, South West England.

ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE CONSIDERED

Ideally, you have worked in a residential setting or have experience working within the criminal justice sector / criminal justice approved premises. However, we appreciate that not everyone can tick every single box, just so long as you are confident and are comfortable working with a diverse range of people from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances, then this job could be for you.

SALARY: £25,462 - £28,805 per annum plus an additional unsocial hours allowance of £2,250 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Bristol, South West England (BS16)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Shift pattern of 4 shifts on and 4 shifts off, rotating 2 x 08:00 - 20:00 and 2 x 20:00 - 08:00, 12 hours per shift

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity in a Criminal Justice Approved Premises for a Residential Support Worker who has excellent communication skills and empathetic ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with women returning to the community from prison.

As the Residential Support Worker, you will join a designated Criminal Justice Approved Premises for up to 26 women, supported by a specially trained all-women workforce! You’ll provide support for women either returning to the community after serving time in prison or who have been given a residential requirement as part of a community sentence.

Working as the Residential Support Worker, you will be responsible for delivering structured activities and skills sessions to supervision and maintenance of discipline; you will provide a safe and supportive environment to allow their residents to re-integrate smoothly back into the community.

This is a rewarding opportunity that will allow you to support and encourage residents back into the community with the skills and confidence they need.

DUTIES

  1. Deliver daily structured living skills sessions plus leisure and creative activities
  2. Provide support to enable residents to deal with problems and become independent
  3. Assist with the induction of new residents to ensure their familiarity with the environment and understanding of rules and policies
  4. Maintain an active presence in the Approved Premises at all times during the shift, including undertaking regular inspections of the building
  5. Report any significant changes or key information relating to residents and escalate any matters of concern
  6. Act as Fire Warden and First Aider on duty
  7. Maintain records and files as required
  8. Demonstrate empathy, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
  9. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with good listening skills
  10. Input and maintain computer-based information systems in an accurate and timely manner
  11. Exercise authority and reinforce boundaries in an appropriate manner
  12. To work on own initiative and be able to cope with stressful situations

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  2. Good numeracy and literacy skills
  3. An understanding of safeguarding
  4. Able to work alone, without guidance
  5. Work on a shift which covers days and weekends
  6. Being empathic, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues

Desirable

  1. Previous experience of working within a residential setting
  2. Previous experience of working with women
  3. Experience of working with groups or individuals in order to support, motivate and change behaviour
  4. An understanding of factors relating to multiple, compound needs
  5. Knowledge and experience of the work within the Criminal Justice System
