Job Summary

Kingswood Arts is seeking a Food Strategy Coordinator to help address food insecurity and support residents of the Kingswood Estate through food and arts-based activities. We are looking for someone who is strategic yet hands-on and involved in delivery.

Job Description

The successful candidate will help establish, manage, and deliver Kingswood Arts' Food Programme, including overseeing existing initiatives like the weekly 'Community Kitchen' and supporting the management of our Community Cafe. They will also develop innovative ideas to meet community needs through food.

  1. Develop and coordinate the Kingswood Arts Food Strategy to tackle issues such as limited access to fresh food, lack of nutritional knowledge, and health concerns.
  2. Coordinate the weekly Community Kitchen.
  3. Recruit and schedule volunteers and guest chefs.
  4. Plan menus and ingredients with volunteer cooks.
  5. Support gardening sessions and utilize produce for arts activities.
  6. Collaborate with the Programme and Participation Manager to develop new volunteer-led cooking and food activities that reflect local cultural diversity.
  7. Promote healthy eating initiatives for young people and community groups attending our classes.
  8. Secure food donations, including pre-prepared and raw ingredients.
  9. Manage food stores and equipment.
  10. Oversee kitchen hygiene, safety, and organization.
  11. Organize educational, entertainment, and demonstration activities related to the food programme.
  12. Monitor, evaluate, and co-create food projects.
  13. Support the development of other local food projects.
  14. Assist with other departmental activities including administration, strategic planning, and events as needed.
  15. Act as Duty Manager when required.

  • Understanding of food safety, food cultures, and nutrition.

Capabilities and Characteristics

The candidate should be confident, approachable, and skilled in engaging with the community. They must be willing to be physically present at sessions, build community connections, and foster partnerships to enhance the food programme at Kingswood Arts. A team player willing to actively participate is essential.

While the role is specialized, flexibility and a collaborative attitude are important as part of our small team.
