Are you looking for your next Data Science role where you’ll be working with cutting-edge technologies as part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team?

If so, this opportunity could be for you! You’ll be making a direct impact in energy forecasting, whilst influencing key business decisions.

The Opportunity

EDF Wholesale Market Services (WMS) is a core business line within the EDF UK Customers Business that is at the centre of helping Britain achieve Net Zero. It provides industry leading wholesale market services to EDF’s supply and generation business units and to third party energy asset owners. The team operates in a broad and diverse range of market segments including residential & business supply, nuclear, renewable & thermal generation and storage & flexible energy.

This role sits within the Volume Forecasting Systems team, responsible for re-platforming and enhancing our Volume Forecasting systems to further enable our market leading performance.

We are looking for a talented Data Scientist to join the team and help develop our forecasting models to minimise business cost and maximise forecast accuracy.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a starting salary from circa £60,000 (depending on experience) and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

We are committed to diversity and inclusion, aiming for an equal gender balance and a workforce that reflects a broad range of backgrounds, including minority ethnic groups, LGBTQ+, individuals with disabilities, and those supporting social mobility. We are a disability confident employer and will assist with reasonable adjustments upon request.

We pride ourselves on fostering a dynamic, inclusive environment where diverse backgrounds and experiences drive innovation. We support you to pursue a career that’s meaningful to you, because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

As the Data Scientist, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing accurate B2B and Residential Volume Forecasting models, optimizing performance, and reducing business costs in our new cloud-based system using data science tools such as Amazon SageMaker and Python/R.

You will collaborate with various teams across WMS to ensure best practices in designing, deploying, and managing forecasting models with new infrastructure.

Your initial focus will be migrating existing models into our new Python-based AWS Data Science environment, supporting the team in leveraging machine learning, data science, and model management capabilities, and embedding new ways of working.

Who you are

You should have exceptional numerical and mathematical skills, with a thorough understanding of UK energy markets. Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proficiency in SQL, Python, and R. Familiarity with Machine Learning operations, Snowflake, and an AWS-centric tech stack would be advantageous.

Beyond technical skills, we value collaborative, inclusive individuals who can manage outcomes and take ownership of projects. Adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement are key to success in this role.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
