The Location:

Simply fertility was established in 2013, and due to the passion, expertise and reputation of our team, has already grown into a leading fertility clinic. Providing treatment to both NHS and private patients, Simply Fertility performs approximately 400 fresh cycles and 300 frozen cycles per year. Offering a full suite of treatment and diagnostic services, including PGT. Conveniently located on the outskirts of Chelmsford, adjacent to junction 17 of the A12, there is ample free parking for staff and patients at the front of the building. Our state- of-the-art laboratory was purpose built in 2017 and is equipped with the latest laboratory equipment and monitoring systems that support us in achieving excellent outcome KPIs. Simply Fertility also has a 5/5 inspection rating from the HFEA.

The Role

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to lead our team of highly skilled scientists in delivering the highest standards of patient care in line with national regulation and TFP policy. As well as providing opportunities to contribute to clinical workload, the successful candidate will manage the laboratory service including resource planning, training junior embryologists, service development, research, quality management and project work. The Laboratory Manager will be part of the local management team and TFP Head of Laboratories team. The Laboratory Manager will also have opportunities to work on delivering group wide projects and strategy.

The person responsible has ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all licensed activities are conducted with proper regard for the regulatory framework that governs treatment and research involving gametes or embryos. The PR is in charge of overseeing the clinics activities and is responsible for leading and developing its staff. Given the breadth of the role, the PR will need to be adept at moving between operational, strategic and regulatory matters with due regard for patient care and safety. Their ultimate goal should be to ensure patients receive the highest quality of care.

Key Responsibilities

Lab Manager

  • Full range of clinical procedures, including ICSI, vitrification and PGT
  • Communicating with patients about treatment options and results
  • Quality Management, including managing the laboratory audit schedule, document control, non-compliance and quality control/assurance.
  • Management of imports/exports, donor recruitment and stored gametes/embryos
  • Resource management, including staffing, consumables and equipment.
  • Operational management including rotas and workflow.
  • Monitoring KPIs and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Training, induction and performance management of new and junior staff
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Contributing to Group level projects and strategy

Person Responsible

  • Ensure staff have an appropriate level of training to fulfil their roles.
  • Comply with inspections and be inspection ready at all times.
  • Cooperate with inspectors whilst they are carrying out an inspection, lead on taking appropriate action in response to matters that are raised in the course of inspections, and comply with all regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring paperwork, fees and data are submitted to the HFEA in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrable leadership capability, the PR must have highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • A core feature of a good PR is someone who can recognize when things have gone wrong and take responsibility. It is crucial therefore that incidents are handled well.
  • Given the breadth of the role, the PR will need to be adept at moving between operational, strategic and regulatory matters with due regard for patient care and safety.
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement and to successfully implement change and thus deliver improvements.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Minimum of a degree in Life Sciences, preferably a MSc or PhD
  • HCPC Registered
  • Minimum of 6 years of clinical experience, some preferably at a senior/management level
  • The successful candidate for this position must have completed the HFEA entry requirements for PR or complete before the start date of this position
  • Advanced Leadership skills
  • Advanced knowledge/experience in Quality Management
  • Advanced knowledge of the UK Regulatory framework
  • Fully trained in all clinical laboratory procedures, preferably including biopsy
  • Must have excellent time management skills and be resilient.
  • High level of attention to detailed and focused
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be highly motivated and have the ability to inspire and motivate others

Salary: Competitive (Depending on experience)

Location: TFP Simply Fertility - Chelmsford

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Weekend Working at approximately a 1:4 (renumerated with TOIL/overtime)

On-Call: Working approximately a 1:4 in coordination with your weekend (remunerated with a daily rate of pay in addition to your basic salary)

Pension: Dual contribution pension scheme

Holiday Entitlement: 27 Days + Bank holidays
