The Mid-Weight Designer’s role is to support the lead designer in interpreting and implementing the creative vision across a broad range of projects ranging from digital, social, print, and environmental design. The Mid-Weight Designer will be highly creative and conceptual with excellent skills in typography, branding, digital design, identity creation, and proficiency within the full Adobe Creative Suite.
Overall Responsibilities:
- Support the lead designer for a broad range of projects including branding, print communication, digital, and environmental branding.
- Create digital designs and assets for use on websites and social media platforms.
- Maintain the high visual standard Portland sets and assist others in maintaining this standard.
- Create presentations to present strategy, ideas, and executions for approval.
- Contribute to studio culture (how we think, work, and play).
- Create unique designs and suites of brand assets.
- Integrate research and conceptual thinking into presentation decks.
- Document and present information effectively.
- Ability to create original concepts from client briefs and assist others in the same.
- Produce concept work using hand sketches or computer software to a professional standard.
- Source reference material and carry out research to ensure that materials and products are fit for purpose.
- Produce mood boards and sample boards that communicate the concept clearly.
- Assemble presentations using a variety of digital and traditional media.
- Record meeting minutes and notes.
- Develop client and design team relationships.
- Attend client meetings and present design work at interim and/or initial concept stages.
- Attend site visits and liaise with contractors, printers, and the design/construction team.
- Report on all aspects of your project at any time, internally or to the client.
- Work to deadlines by planning your time and that of others (Junior Designers).
- Continually work to improve communication skills with all parties.
- Lead mock-up design reviews before the final production or client presentation.
- Participate in new business initiatives with senior staff such as client interviews and proposal preparation.
- Travel may be required.

- 2-3 years of experience within the creative industry, preferably within a multidisciplinary agency, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with the following software:
- Adobe Suite (InDesign: Necessary)
- SketchUp and/or Rhino (Necessary)
- Enscape and/or Twin Motion (Advantageous)
- Hand-drawing (Advantageous)
