Senior Ecologist

East Sussex

Salary dependant on experience

Our client is a small, dynamic, and expanding environmental consultancy based in Brighton, working across sectors including residential, commercial, education, renewable energy developments, transport infrastructure, and local development planning.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Senior Ecologist seeking their next challenge to join this established and growing consultancy. The role involves a busy fieldwork schedule and mentoring junior staff development.

To succeed, you will have experience delivering technical work and high-standard reports, coupled with excellent field skills. You will manage your own projects, with work tailored to individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct ecological surveys, including habitat and protected species surveys, using various techniques.
2. Client liaison, reporting progress, and ensuring project delivery within time and budget.
3. Produce high-quality technical outputs and contribute to technical reviews.
4. Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members.

Role Requirements

1. Degree or equivalent in ecology or a related discipline.
2. An MSc or PhD in a relevant subject is highly beneficial.
3. Experience producing high-quality technical reports, including Phase 1, PEAs, protected species surveys, and mitigation/enhancement plans.
4. Hold Natural England survey licences for at least two species/groups.
5. Membership or Chartership within CIEEM or similar is essential.
6. A valid UK driving licence and flexibility to work on-site when required.

Desired Experience

1. Experience obtaining or drafting European Protection Species Mitigation (EPSM) licences.
2. Contributing to Ecological Impact Assessments and Habitats Regulations Assessments.
3. Experience with GIS software, especially ArcGIS.
