Handyman / Maintenance Technician

Newcastle

Salary: £25,000 - £26,500 per annum, plus 20% discretionary bonus

Hours: 9am - 5:30pm Monday - Friday

My client provides high quality student housing, in both shared houses and apartments, in 24 cities across the UK, leading the way in offering exceptional student accommodation.

About the job

They are now recruiting for an experienced Handyman / Maintenance Technician to join their team to manage repairs and maintenance across their portfolio of student houses in Newcastle.

Key responsibilities

  1. To provide high standard repairs, maintenance and decorating across a portfolio of high-quality student houses.
  2. Working at the forefront of the business with daily interaction with student customers.
  3. Complete planned and reactive maintenance works within the property budget.
  4. Undertake periodic health & safety checks and property inspections.
  5. Carry out statutory compliance inspections if required.
  6. Ensuring the security and general appearance of the properties and gardens are maintained in accordance with the required standards.
  7. Managing maintenance and any third-party contractor works to a consistently high standard.
  8. Energy and utility management including meter reading and broadband service management.
  9. Assisting with ad-hoc jobs such as delivering keys, assisting tenants that are locked out.
  10. Basic seasonal garden maintenance.

Experience and Skills

  1. Experience of completing repairs and planned maintenance in student/HMO housing or similar.
  2. Experience in internal and external painting.
  3. Some experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and decoration desirable.
  4. Undertaking periodic health & safety and statutory compliance testing.
  5. Broadband & TV issue diagnosis.
  6. Excellent communication & customer service skills and enjoys problem solving.
  7. Able to diagnose & complete cost-effective repairs in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Proactive, positive attitude and able to work under own initiative.
  9. Strong IT skills with the ability to use iOS on iPhone and iPad and experience with Microsoft Office 365 - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  10. Strong organisation and time management with a good attention to detail.

Requirements

  1. Full UK driving license required.
  2. Satisfactory references.
  3. DBS check required.
