The Development team specializes in providing high-level advice and design to public and private sector clients on planning and design issues related to Highways, Drainage, Flood Protection, Earthworks, and Service Coordination across various development sectors such as Residential, Industrial, Commercial, Health, Education, and Sports. This diversity of projects offers opportunities to grow your technical skills while working on exciting projects of various scales across the Midlands.

We are seeking to recruit an Associate Director to lead our transport planning team in Birmingham.

YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT'S INVOLVED?

You will have the opportunity to lead our transport planning team, working with our senior leadership team to develop and grow the team, while delivering for our clients. Client liaison, assisting in preparing fee proposals, developing business through your network (as we help you grow this), and work-winning duties are key parts of the role.

Each day will present different challenges and opportunities, from supporting your team and colleagues through their goals and professional development to finding solutions to unlock developments for our clients. Your role will be varied, sometimes leading projects with responsibility for day-to-day project management and leadership, and other times working with colleagues to provide multidisciplinary advice across the development process—from early concept development, leading to planning applications or stakeholder negotiations to help secure deliverable and sustainable planning consents.

You can expect to be active on multiple projects or client accounts at any given time. You will be supported by a team of experienced technical staff of various grades.

We will expect you to ensure your projects are delivered on budget, on schedule, and to technical standards, meeting QA, CDM, and HSE requirements.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • Substantial postgraduate (or equivalent) experience and either have been awarded Chartered status (such as TPP, CEng, MIHT) or have equivalent commercial experience and responsibility. You should demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and experience in transport planning, as well as a broad understanding of the Development Industry.
  • The ability to produce technical reports for various stakeholders, conduct site appraisals, and write relevant sections of environmental statements. You should have good knowledge of design guidance such as DMRB, Local Authority Design Guides, LTN 1/20, and Manual for Streets.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills, with awareness of current and emerging technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability. You should be able to direct and review the use of relevant software, including standalone junction capacity software such as Junctions 10 and LinSig.
  • An approach to vision-led planning, responding to current and future climate, transport, and sustainability challenges faced by the development industry.
  • A consultancy background with a focus on private sector work, but with an understanding of public sector requirements.

Imagine a better future for you and for us all.

Work on landmark projects worldwide and seize opportunities to make a significant impact in communities you care about. What if you could do the best work of your life and create a legacy for yourself?

With us, you can. Apply today.
