Job description

Chemist Polymers, Coatings, Inks

An exciting role has become available for a Chemist with a leading manufacturer of high-quality products. You will be contributing to the development of new products, improving existing formulations, and optimising manufacturing processes. For candidates who are innovative, proactive, and passionate about sustainability, this is a great opportunity to make a significant impact in a dynamic and growing industry.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and optimise coating formulations and techniques.
  2. Design and implement novel water-based inks and primers, enhancing performance and sustainability across products.
  3. Serve as a specialist in embossing techniques, creating innovative textures and patterns to enhance surface aesthetics.
  4. Introduce new features to surfaces, improving functionality and aligning with market trends.
  5. Support product qualification and approval programmes in support of the NPD&I portfolio where appropriate.
  6. Conduct laboratory experiments and testing to evaluate the properties and characteristics of films and surface coatings.
  7. Collaborate with production personnel and provide technical support to resolve production and quality issues for new and existing products.
  8. Provide technical support to customers regarding product specifications, application techniques, and troubleshooting.
  9. Assist in evaluating raw materials, suppliers, and vendors to ensure compliance with quality standards, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability requirements.
  10. Occasional travel for customer visits, training sessions, and industry events, sometimes outside usual working hours.
Ideal Candidate
  1. Knowledge of polymers, resins, and surface coating/decorating technologies, with the ability to introduce new methodologies.
  2. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Material Science.
  3. Minimum of 5 years industry experience in coatings, preferably in plastics or material coatings.
  4. Excellent communication skills.
  5. Knowledge of new product development, process safety, optimisation, and process improvements.
  6. Ability to plan, organise, conduct testing, and analyse results.
  7. UK Driving Licence is required.
  8. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available.
