Job description

National Landscape Planning Adviser – Fixed term

East Devon District Council

Region: West – Sidmouth

Salary: £35,235 - £41,511 per annum pro-rata

Job Ref: ED010028F

Part time

About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity to join a small but dedicated team of individuals working to conserve and protect the special qualities of East Devon National Landscape (EDNL). The team works across a wide range of areas, developing and delivering projects that support communities, nature, farming, climate, access, diversity and inclusion. Our strategic themes are Nature, Climate, People and Place. This role provides an excellent opportunity for growth and professional development.

You will review and respond to planning consultations that occur within, and just outside the boundary of the National Landscape. In so doing, you will directly support and deliver objectives in the wider National Landscape Management Plan to conserve and enhance the area’s natural beauty.

In addition, you will act as a vital link between communities, developers, the Local Authority and the National Landscape through working in partnership to provide pre-planning advice and guidance around sustainable development within or around the Protected Landscape.

About you
With a degree in town planning or equivalent qualification/experience, you will be able to demonstrate practical experience preparing responses to development plans and planning applications. You will have a strong working knowledge of the planning system and policy pertaining to protected landscapes. This knowledge and experience will be coupled with a good understanding of landscape character areas and landscape character types in East Devon.

Self-driven and proactive, your track record of reviewing and responding to planning applications within a protected landscape setting and evidence of engaging with consultations at a pre-application stage will underpin your ability to evidence clear action to protect a landscape through planning advice. Additional experience advising and responding to felling consultations and woodland management plans would be desirable.

A valid driving license to facilitate travel throughout the district is essential (reasonable adjustments may be possible in accordance with the Equality Act).
