The Role:

We are looking to recruit an Assistant Practitioner to join the Speech and Language Therapy (Adult Service) team at University Hospital Wishaw.

The successful candidate will undertake the implementation of therapy programmes under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapist, across varied locations and with different client groups.

Duties and location may vary depending on the client group/aspect and demands of the service/level of experience.

Contract Type / Shift Pattern:

Band 4 / Permanent / Part Time / 18.5 hours

Monday and Friday (hours to be agreed between 8am - 5pm)

What we'll need you to bring:

  • Formal qualification at HNC Level or equivalent level of experience in a health/education/social care environment.
  • Awareness of health legislation relevant to the clinical area.
  • Knowledge of the clinical speciality/area process, techniques, and activities relevant to the client group.
  • Ability to apply a range of technical and practical skills.
  • Effective listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology.
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn and develop new skills and maintain a record of learning.
  • To actively participate in the Personal Development Plan process to fulfill the requirements of continuing professional development.
  • To undergo continued job-specific training on theory to practice relating to relevant client groups e.g., in-house training, short courses, and general CPD.
  • Use practical experience to contribute and influence future training for speech and language therapy assistants.

It would be good if you also had:

  • Member of RCSLT
  • LSVT Certification
  • Demonstrable experience as an SHCSW or in a health/education/social care environment
  • Experience of working with adults with acquired neurological difficulties
  • Experience of working in Videofluoroscopy Clinic
  • Proficient I.T. skills which include a working knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Knowledge of AAC & Boardmaker
  • High level of communication skills, both written and oral
  • Good organisational and planning skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
