Job Description
To provide safe and accurate specialist technical service delivering therapeutic ionising radiation, while maintaining a high duty of care to all patients undergoing Radiotherapy.
Responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate effective patient management, encompassing all patient needs, using specialist knowledge of treatment side effects, skin reactions, and their management.
- Take responsibility for referring patients for clinical assessment by a consultant or deputy when symptoms become acute prior to treatment commencement.
- Resolve complex treatment and planning issues through problem-solving skills and autonomous decision-making.
- Compute and verify specialised calculations and complex planning data related to patients' treatment delivery.
- Maintain specialist knowledge of ARIA for autonomous registration, review, and decision-making regarding patient data.
- Use Electronic Portal Images to verify patient positioning accurately.
- Input and review patient data and plan parameters in ARIA for safe Radiotherapy treatment delivery.
- Communicate effectively with Oncology Consultants & Registrars regarding complex planning or treatment information to ensure safety and accuracy.
- Apply critical thinking to assess the efficacy of treatment prescriptions and departmental procedures.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions regarding patient care and service delivery.
- Ensure all new patients receive departmental information and documentation on radiotherapy, including consent and pre-treatment review.
- Maintain knowledge of pre-treatment procedures to ensure high-quality pre-treatment planning and care.
- Participate in CT planning, patient positioning, data input into planning systems, and virtual simulation applications.
- Possibly participate in HDR preparation and delivery.
- Ensure availability of equipment for QA and maintenance to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
- Provide a supportive, confidential environment for patients, carers, and staff.
- Offer daily support to terminally ill and distressed patients and their families.
- Maintain professionalism when exposed to challenging conditions, including bodily fluids and odours.
- Maintain high concentration levels for complex treatments with minimal tolerances.
- Participate in departmental on-call services, work flexible hours, including bank holidays and overtime.
- Take personal responsibility for the safe use of complex, expensive equipment.
