Wood is currently looking for a Fire & Gas Instrument Engineer experienced in design and implementation, compliance and safety to join our Systems Integration team as part of Woods Consulting business unit to support across our UK projects.

This is a hybrid role that can be based at any of the following UK offices: Aberdeen, Staines, Reading, Glasgow or Northampton with the expectation of travel as required.

Please note applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

The Role

A Fire and Gas Instrument Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of industrial facilitates by designing, implementing and maintaining fire and gas detection system to ensure safety in industrial environments, such as Oil & Gas, Chemical Plants and manufacturing facilities.

F&G Engineers work closely with process safety and automation teams to integrate fire and gas systems with other safety systems.

Responsibilities

The Key Objective of this role are:

  • Development of fire and gas detection systems design tailored to gas plant specifications and industry standards
  • Preparation of Design related documents (such as: Detailed Design Specification, Cause and Effects diagram, Functional diagram, F&G layout, Fire and Gas Philosophy, Instrument specification for package equipment, BOM, system architecture and operation narrative)
  • Selection of suitable instrument for hazardous application
  • Inter-discipline review of deliverables from other departments
  • Produce Material requisition and contribute to Technical Bid evaluation
  • Review Vendor Drawing and consolidate comments generated by other disciplines
  • Implement control systems for fire and gas detection, ensuring seamless integration with existing plant safety systems
  • Ensure all fire and gas detection systems comply with relevant UK safety standards and regulations for gas plants
  • Conduct safety audits and risk assessments specific to gas plant environments to identify potential hazards and improve system reliability
  • Lead projects related to the installation and upgrade of fire and gas detection systems in gas plants
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including safety, engineering, and operations, to ensure project success in gas plant settings
  • Maintain detailed records of system designs, installations, maintenance activities, and compliance checks for gas plant projects
  • Provide regular reports on system performance, incidents, and improvements to management
  • Adherence to the discipline specific procedures and providing feedback for continuous improvement
  • Support the development and delivery of the technical safety standard expectations and technical assurance
  • Participate in audits & incident investigations as required
  • Actively maintaining own competence and continuous development
  • Technically competent in own discipline and actively maintains own competence according to standards and pursues continuous professional development
  • Provide discipline support to the business
  • Ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments and promote to direct reports
