Main duties of the job
Apply specialist scientific knowledge and advanced technology to blood sample analysis, guiding clinical diagnosis and disease management to protect islander health.
Participate actively and comply with statutory responsibilities relevant to the role.

Job responsibilities
Perform specialist analyses in haematology, transfusion, biochemistry, and molecular sciences, providing advice to guide diagnosis and treatment.
Prioritise tasks to meet urgent clinical needs and turnaround times, contributing to best practices in transfusion and health promotion.
Take ownership of scientific decisions impacting patient care, working independently or leading small teams.
Troubleshoot instrumentation and procedures, ensuring quality standards are met.
Coordinate with other professionals and off-island consultants, providing guidance on guidelines, specimens, and results.
Participate in audits, accreditation, and continuous professional development activities.
Educate and assess less experienced staff, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to procedural and quality assurance processes.
Assess and minimize clinical risks to ensure patient safety.
