Job description

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a talented individual to join the Peterborough office as an Audit Assistant Manager within our Audit Team. The successful candidate is expected to be ACA/ACCA qualified with solid technical skills and experience in leading, or taking a lead role, in an audit team.

The role

As an Audit Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team to deliver quality and efficient statutory audits and other assurance engagements to our clients. You will work as part of a team to deliver our uniquely personal and proactive service, upholding the highest standards in client service. You will be directly responsible for managing a seed portfolio of clients, as well as supporting large and complex assignments. This is a progressive role in which your client portfolio will grow.

You will:

  • Work with our expansive and varied client base, including large corporate clients and groups with turnover up to £500m.
  • Play a key role in audit engagements, from planning through to completion, including the preparation and review of group and single entity financial statements.
  • Manage a seed portfolio of clients, responsible for the entire process, reporting directly to the Partner.
  • Review statutory audit files to ensure high-quality work.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the audit team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as a key contact.
  • Work alongside Partners and Managers on advisory work, including financial forecast models, business plans, internal controls, financial due diligence, and other ad hoc projects.
  • Benefit from investment in coaching and development, with support from the Manager and Partner team.

The role offers an opportunity for someone early in their career to join an organization with a great work-life balance and a focus on individual growth. You will gain experience with large, complex clients in a fast-growing office, creating opportunities for career progression. Saffery has been a UK Top Employer for 21 years, providing a supportive and friendly environment where our people are at the heart of what we do.

The team

You will join a growing team with regular check-ins with your Performance and Development Reviewer (Senior Manager or Director) to support your career development. You will work closely with Managers and Partners in a vibrant team of professionals studying towards or having achieved their qualifications. Our interactions are underpinned by our values of collegiality, enthusiasm, integrity, and excellence. We aim to develop a caring team with similar values to deliver excellent client service in an enjoyable environment.

About you

  • The successful candidate will be ACA/ACCA qualified.
  • Minimum of 1 year of post-qualification experience in an audit role.
  • You should be motivated, organized, commercially minded, and possess good interpersonal skills. Initiative, accuracy, and a positive, enthusiastic attitude are essential. A natural team player is also required.

Reward and benefits

  • A 35-hour workweek with a hybrid working policy, allowing up to three days remote work depending on business needs (core hours 10-4).
  • Benefits include contributory pension, 25 days annual leave, Life Assurance, flexible benefits, and family-friendly policies.
  • Eligibility for the Profit-Sharing Plan, paid in December.
  • Eligibility for the discretionary bonus scheme.
