About the role:
We are currently recruiting for an ICA Technician (Instrument, Control and Automation) based at our Latton - Cirencester or Swinford WTW (OX29 4BZ), depending on your location, to join Thames Water.
The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team alongside operational teams such as systems, mechanical, and electrical technicians. Your responsibilities will include installing, modifying, and commissioning new plant equipment to relevant standards, diagnosing and repairing faults on systems and plants, proactively identifying follow-on work or areas for enhancement, and delivering cost-effective improvements to assets and systems.
What you’ll be doing as the ICA Technician:
- Installing, modifying, and commissioning new plant equipment to relevant standards, diagnosing and repairing faults, and reporting follow-up work or areas for improvement.
- Carrying out instrumentation, control, and automation maintenance on water production assets, including planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance, and liaising with contractors and suppliers as needed.
- Investigating plant failures and implementing repairs efficiently to prevent supply interruptions, conducting risk assessments, and creating method statements for maintenance activities.
- Providing technical advice, supporting training for technical trainees, and contributing to project development and capital delivery projects.
Base Location:
Latton - Cirencester (GL7 5QF) or Swinford WTW (OX29 4BZ)
Working Pattern:
38 hours Monday-Friday, with standby rota payments and overtime opportunities that can increase annual earnings by up to £10,000 after completing essential training.
All PPE, tools, van, and fuel card are provided.
What you should bring to the role:
- A practical understanding of operational plant and control systems, including Wonderware (desirable), ClearSCADA, relay logic, and PLC management and programming.
- Ability to read and fault-find from circuit diagrams.
- Experience with instrumentation such as flow meters, pressure sensors, ultrasonics, and telemetry.
- Qualification to HNC level or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in an electrical subject, with experience in calibration and maintenance of instrumentation.
- Ability to prioritize and be self-motivated.
- Knowledge of water treatment processes (desirable).
- A valid driving license, as the role involves working across multiple sites.
