Job Summary

We are seeking a Prescription Clerk to join our friendly and professional administration team based in Gloucester. The role involves supporting the pharmacist team to provide a safe and effective prescription service, including handling prescription enquiries from patients and external sources.

G DOC LTD is owned by all GP Practices in Gloucestershire, serving as shareholders. We operate on a not-for-profit basis, reinvesting profits into primary care services across Gloucestershire. The organisation is managed by a Board of Directors, predominantly experienced local GPs.

Our services include multiple GP practices and countywide initiatives such as the Covid Medicines Service, supporting high-risk patients.

In Gloucester, we serve 9,500 patients at Gloucester Health Access Centre/Matson Lane and Partners in Health, and in the Forest of Dean, two dispensing practices serve 7,500 and 3,200 patients respectively.

Job Responsibilities
  • Understand and operate the electronic prescribing system within the practice.
  • Process repeat prescriptions daily, ensuring adherence to practice protocols.
  • Handle weekly prescriptions for vulnerable patients and address associated queries.
  • Support reception staff with medication requests, following surgery protocols.
  • Ensure prescriptions are signed by a GP, prepared within 48 hours, and ready for pharmacy collection.
  • Address prescription problems and queries, liaising with pharmacists for resolution.
  • Perform drug monitoring searches to minimize adverse effects and ensure current medication authorizations.
  • Ensure medication reviews are completed timely and documented appropriately.
  • Assist with coding medication reviews.
  • Promote cost-effective prescribing by switching to generic options and using local formulary choices.
  • Handle prescription queries from healthcare professionals and staff, including GPs, nurses, hospital staff, pharmacists, and carers.
  • Manage medication changes from hospital correspondence, updating patient records, and informing patients of changes when necessary.
  • Manage prescriptions for patients on weekly medication in compliance aids.
