Procurement Heads are delighted to be recruiting a newly created Head of Indirect Procurement role. An exceptionally exciting opportunity for a world-changing organisation.

Are you an accomplished procurement leader ready to drive strategic initiatives in a pioneering FTSE250 biotech company?

The Head of Indirect Procurement is a critical role in advancing our client’s procurement maturity programme and optimising their indirect spend.

Reporting directly to the Director of Procurement, you will be responsible for creating a strategy and providing support across high-risk and critical projects from within the c £150 million of indirect spend. This role is integral to enhancing procurement processes and achieving greater efficiency and effectiveness within the organisation. Spend covers several indirect categories, with a primary focus on IT, followed by marketing, facilities, HR, Capex, and R&D.

We are looking for an exceptional business leader, with the passion and gravitas required to further expand the Indirect Procurement team’s oversight and involvement of this spend.

The Head of Indirect Procurement will ensure that the indirect procurement team plays a crucial role in managing supplier performance, improving efficiency, and driving cost management. This position is pivotal in driving the maturity programme for procurement processes related to approximately £150m of spend and will be instrumental in gaining buy-in from various parts of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Indirect Procurement team, setting KPIs, coaching team members, and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a business partner to stakeholders in Operations, Finance, IT, Marketing, Facilities, HR, and Legal to align departmental goals with procurement objectives and wider business priorities.
  • Work with stakeholders to identify value, improve operational performance, and drive change through the team and organization.
  • Create dashboards for savings, compliance, supplier performance, and working-capital metrics to show progress against key departmental objectives.
  • Manage procurement processes including sourcing, SRM, and category management to ensure best total cost for products and services.
  • Develop and implement strategies for procuring products or services within regulatory frameworks.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance across quality, service, and cost.
  • Identify and research potential new suppliers, products, and services, monitoring commodity, market, and category trends.
  • Improve supplier development and contractual performance and metrics across the team and supply chains.
  • Demonstrate business leadership by understanding stakeholder needs, procurement goals, and wider business objectives, and making them work together.
  • Involve in high-spend and high-risk projects, gradually gaining more governance across the business.


The ideal Head of Indirect Procurement would have:

  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, ideally manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience within a complex procurement environment
  • Be a dynamic business leader with gravitas and passion—able to gain buy-in from a range of stakeholders
  • Experience from a greenfield or brownfield procurement setting
  • Exposure to at least 2-3 different Indirect spend categories
  • Experience in team management and a desire to grow a world-class procurement team
