Job description

We are currently looking for a Buyer to join our Global Supply Chains department based in Dunfermline on a 3-month fixed-term contract. The role will be responsible for all aspects of purchasing for allocated parts and suppliers. You will collaborate with suppliers and cross-functionally within Optos to improve the supply chain, focusing on delivery against cost, quality, and delivery objectives. Additionally, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives and project activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Work proactively with current and potential suppliers to identify and support cost reduction initiatives, ensuring timely delivery with maximum impact.
  2. Take ownership of your suppliers’ performance and development, leading or supporting strategic reviews and regular meetings to identify risks, issues, and opportunities for performance improvements.
  3. Support change management actions to ensure efficient implementation of New Product Introductions or Engineering Changes.
  4. Support continuous improvement initiatives and the implementation of best practices.
  5. Establish supply chain setups to maximize flexibility and replenishment efficiency, ensuring inventory optimization and agility.
  6. Manage inventory effectively to ensure material availability while achieving targets for non-conforming inventory, excess, and obsolescence.
  7. Share capacity forecast requirements with key suppliers monthly and confirm their ability to meet these requirements, addressing any exceptions proactively.
  8. Maintain updated information on each supplier’s structure, strategy, and capabilities.
  9. Ensure lead times are regularly updated in the system, and purchase orders are placed in line with demand and sourcing strategies, addressing queries proactively.
  10. Maintain data integrity continuously.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree or equivalent experience in materials management or business studies is preferred.
  • Working towards CIPS qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience is essential.
  • Experience in supply chain or materials management within a medium/high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness and proven ability in supplier relationship management.
  • Knowledge of production processes relevant to the role.
  • Understanding of pricing strategies and philosophies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an influential approach to authority.
  • Strong analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Target-oriented with experience in setting and achieving targets.
  • Excellent presentation skills with a strategic thinking and planning ability.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
