Job description

Job Description

Westlakes Recruit is currently recruiting for a Planner (Mechanical, Electrical, and HVAC bias) to be engaged on a permanent basis, based in Bridgwater.

The Construction Planner will be responsible for the onsite planning of installation activities and associated data. This includes governance, management, and updating of project construction schedules.

The role involves the development, integration, design, testing, and commissioning of detailed construction schedules within the project phase, considering all aspects of integrated mechanical, electrical, and HVAC works. This includes conducting integrated schedule reviews to develop detailed, optimized construction delivery sequences and resource-loaded schedules, as well as integrating construction activities with all client programmes within the project schedules to optimize planning and address interfaces.

The detailed construction schedules support the overall project integrated works schedule (IWS) and the 16-week look-ahead process to un-constrain work and ensure schedule adherence. The role also involves managing and updating schedule data within planning and production control toolsets, supporting the performance optimization and influence of 4D capabilities on safety, quality, cost, time, and risk throughout the project lifecycle.

The Construction Planner must ensure that installation schedules are supported by relevant digital toolsets and data to meet project delivery needs. They will produce, manage, and maintain project programme construction schedules in accordance with planning procedures and contract requirements, report site progress using various methods, and ensure construction teams are informed of relevant schedule data.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of engineering, procurement, and construction processes, and the integration of these activities. Specific requirements include:

  1. A construction trade qualification or OND/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent in Construction Management or related subject (desirable).
  2. Professional membership of RICS, CIOB, RIBA, ICE, CIBSE, or demonstrable experience from previous project assignments.
  3. In-depth knowledge and experience of programme progress, forecast positioning, and planning.
  4. Strong communication skills.
  5. An understanding of various methods of planning, programming, and progress monitoring.
  6. An understanding of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment, and labour requirements.
  7. A basic understanding of estimating principles.
