If you are looking for an apprenticeship with variety and a chance to work in some of the most remote parts of Scotland, then this opportunity could be just what you have been looking for. The Northern Lighthouse Board, in partnership with Forth Valley College, is offering engineering apprenticeships to passionate and aspiring engineers.

About Us

The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys, and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.

The Role - Overview

As an apprentice, you will learn to fault-find, read technical drawings, and develop trade skills associated with electrical engineering. The role involves working on a wide range of electrical and electronic equipment. You will undertake a comprehensive training programme with Forth Valley College, and a mentor will support and advise you throughout the programme.

Entry Requirements

You will have 4 National 5s including Maths, English, and Physics. Highers in these subjects would be desirable but not essential.

Salary and Benefits
  • The current pay band for an apprentice is £18,036 per year, reviewed annually.
  • Civil Service Pension with an average employer contribution of 28%.
  • Annual leave allowance of 25 days, increasing by 1 day per year of service up to 30 days.
  • 11.5 days for public holidays.
  • Generous sick pay scheme and family leave policies.
  • Excellent training and development opportunities.
