Location: Basingstoke, Campus Site Office

Hours: Mixed between 32 to 42 Hrs/ Week, including Day/Night shifts and weekends

Salary: £14.10 / Per Hour

Join a Critical Safety Role in the Heart of the Railway Network

We are seeking a vigilant and responsible CCTV & Control Centre Operator to join the SSCC team, supporting South Western Railway (SWR) and its network spanning from London Waterloo to Weymouth.

This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of staff, passengers, and railway infrastructure.

Please note: You may need to view disturbing or graphic CCTV footage, including fatal incidents. Emotional resilience and professionalism are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor nearly 3,000 CCTV cameras across SWR stations for suspicious activity.
  • Log, track, and communicate with Rail Community Officers (RCOs) via radio, documenting movements accurately.
  • Deploy RCOs and escalate incidents with British Transport Police (BTP), local police, SWR staff, and customer support teams.
  • Maintain clear communication via SSCC chat group, updating management on incidents.
  • Liaise with emergency services and police, facilitating CCTV playback viewings with proper approvals.
  • Complete Safety & Security App forms for incidents, submitted to BTP for investigation.
  • Handle multiple incidents simultaneously with strong prioritization and composure.
  • Maintain situational awareness and remain calm during high-pressure incidents.
  • Use the phonetic alphabet and radio communication protocols confidently.
  • Keep accurate records using spreadsheets and logs.
  • Work with sensitive, sometimes disturbing CCTV footage, including fatal incidents.
  • Experience in CCTV monitoring or control room roles is desirable.
  • Understand data protection laws—no mobile recording of footage.
