Job Description

Reporting to the Water Project Management Delivery Lead for the UK, your role as Senior Project Manager will involve delivering work with water companies or the Environment Agency in the Midlands area, with opportunities to work in the North West of England, primarily in consultancy roles. There will also be opportunities for progression across UK water, environment, rail, or nuclear sectors.

You should have knowledge and experience in pre- and post-contract management within NEC 3 or NEC 4 ECC forms and procurement in the UK water, environment, rail, or nuclear sectors. The role requires leveraging your project experience to drive efficiencies, effective supply chain engagement, and contract management.

Experience with Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and Early Subcontractor Involvement (ESI) in design and build major capital programs is essential. We support your personal growth through training, career development, and potential chartership pathways.

Role Responsibilities
General
  • Manage NEC3/4 Option A, C, and E ECC Contracts on the client side
  • Control project budgets
  • Coordinate with Quantity Surveyors on payment valuations and certification
  • Forecast actual costs and determine Defined Costs with QS
  • Build and maintain collaborative stakeholder relationships
  • Maintain project and commercial records per contract requirements
  • Draft contract communications, including Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events
Pre-Contract Activities
  • Conduct project scope planning, cost estimates, and feasibility studies
  • Prepare and evaluate tender documentation
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate early with contractors during design
Post-Contract Activities
  • Manage construction contracts
  • Monitor expenditure and cash flow
  • Evaluate and negotiate change orders
  • Handle claims and dispute resolution
  • Finalize accounts and evaluate project outcomes
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a numeric field
  • Full membership of a chartered body such as APM (MAPM)
  • Extensive postgraduate experience in Rail, Nuclear, Water, or Environment sectors
  • Experience in line management and recruitment of project managers or assistants
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations
  • Risk management expertise
  • Valid CSCS card; Water Hygiene Card desirable
  • Experience working with main contractors or joint ventures on the client side
  • Site presence and co-location at least 3 days a week
  • Proficiency with NEC3/4 contracts (A-C-E)
  • Legal right to work in the UK
