What you’ll be involved in:

1. Manage and lead teams to develop and implement activities in Engineering to meet goals, quality, and cost objectives.
2. Create project plans that will help the organization meet the goals required for new products or designs. Select, develop, and lead personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the engineering function and develop schedules and manpower requirements for assigned areas.
3. Prioritize schedules based on multiple factors and customer requirements. Plan and administer procedures and budgets. Network with key contacts outside own area of expertise to enable company & customer objectives to be achieved.
4. Determine critical methods and procedures on new assignments and coordinate activities of other personnel. Tasks and assignments tend to be complex, non-routine and/or require a greater level of expertise. Receive assignments in the form of objectives with goals and process to meet goals outlined. Duties are performed under limited supervision, with a direct report into the Head of Engineering or Site Director.

Areas responsible for:

• Direct subordinates to achieve assignments using established guidelines, procedures and policies by providing leadership to the Engineering teams or other groups of employees as required, assigning tasks and checking work at frequent intervals to ensure engineering & production goals are met within organization goals of budget, time requirements and high level of quality.
• Manage engineering resources to ensure all present and future products and services are of high quality.
• Lead professional staff and supervise semi-skilled employees, providing guidance according to established policies and management guidance.
• Ensure that departments within the organization reach goals within budget and a high level of quality.
• Interact with functional peer groups regarding exchange or presentation of information.
• Determine work schedules and overtime (if applicable) and allocation of resources and equipment. Resolve problems as they occur.
• Pursue new ways to improve the efficiency of engineering development/production. Develop, plan, and administer procedures. Recommend changes to leadership groups. Coordinate, develop, and implement standard operating procedures for functional area.
• Liaise with department supervisors or leads to determine status of assigned projects.
• Prepare reports for chief engineer, site director and HR as required.
• Identify obstacles to achieving business goals and provide solutions or ideas for discussion.
• Work to avoid erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results that may cause scrap, rework, use of excessive overtime, and/or delays in schedules.
• Prepare and present budgetary recommendations for equipment, product or team development.
• Frequently interact with subordinate supervisors, outside customers, and functional peer groups at various management levels.

What we're looking for in you:

To perform this job successfully, you must have previous experience in leading and managing a team of diverse engineers in highly technical areas, ideally within the RF/Electronic product design engineering and manufacture.

Experience of working within a systems engineering mindset approach from a product development setting would be of interest, as would experience of working within defence product areas.

Degree/MSc/PhD in Engineering or related fields, ideally within the Electronics arena.

Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing would be an advantage.

Experience of formal product development and delivery processes within Engineering manufacturing areas, such as NPI.
