The Role:

As a principal quantitative analyst, you will combine investment management and technical expertise with a passion for delivering results for the Asset Manager, Asset Owner, and Plc. The ESG Quantitative Analyst will play a key role in integrating data science and sustainability to analyze a company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, from design to implementation. You will contribute to sustainability decision-making, risk management, and compliance by applying advanced methods. Working closely with investment teams under the CIO of Equities, Multi-Asset, and Sustainability, you will gain valuable experience across public and private markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement cutting-edge data science and ESG methods to develop proprietary assessments of a company's ESG alignment, including framework development, calculations, and best practices in software architecture.
  • Support and enhance existing in-house tools, developing new capabilities.
  • Create Python APIs to enable access to ESG data and analysis for systems and researchers.
  • Conduct proprietary sustainability analyses in response to asset management, asset owner, Plc, or client requests.
  • Develop innovative tools utilizing natural language processing and AI technologies.
  • Ensure consistency across M&G Group sustainability data for Plc and Asset Owner entities.
  • Support the broader Stewardship & Sustainability initiatives through data analytics.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Strong academic background with a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics from a leading university.
  • Extensive programming experience, preferably in Python, with full-stack development expertise, including front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Angular) and back-end (Python).
  • Knowledge of relevant database technologies such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Oracle, or MS SQL Server.
  • Several years of experience applying sophisticated analytics and quantitative techniques to support investment strategies and develop new solutions.
  • Deep understanding of quantitative methods, statistics, and econometrics; experience in natural language processing or AI is a plus.
  • Proven ability to develop data analytics tools hands-on.
  • Assist research teams in developing new models and products to provide a competitive advantage.
