Qualifications

  • Experience in inpatient neurological or brain injury rehabilitation is desirable.
  • Consideration for CCT in General Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, or Neurology with rehabilitation experience.

We'd like you to join us as a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at the Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. This position is part time - 2 days per week.

Located in Hucknall on the outskirts of Nottingham, we specialise in the treatment, care, and support of individuals aged 18 and over with physical and cognitive impairments due to brain injury or other neurological conditions. Our site offers flexible care options from our specialist on-site team, with three distinct yet complementary services.

Our clinical team is highly trained in rehabilitation and care of adults with brain injuries and neurological conditions, supported by housekeeping, catering, maintenance, and administration staff.

Patients have access to local adapted swimming and hydrotherapy services and outdoor areas for recreation.

We have links with a local spasticity clinic to support Botox treatments.

Our multidisciplinary team includes a hospital director, unit managers, medical doctors, neuropsychologist, head of therapies, nurses (RGN and RMN), occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, assistant psychologists, therapy assistants, and activity coordinators.

What you'll be doing:

The role focuses on Fernwood and Millwood Wards.

Clinical responsibilities include:

  • Leading the multidisciplinary team in assessments for admissions within partner hospitals
  • Providing input on spasticity and bowel/bladder management
  • Leading care and treatment, including weekly reviews
  • Participating in family, case review, and discharge meetings
  • Practising evidence-based care following national standards and guidelines
  • Supervising junior doctors
  • Preparing for external reviews and liaising with local commissioners

Management duties include:

  • Attending and contributing to neuroclinical governance meetings
  • Participating in service development through research and audits
  • Maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, especially NHS partners
  • Engaging in national networks
  • Personal development via CPD and annual appraisals, adhering to GMC standards

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • MRCP (Required)
  • CCT or equivalent in Rehabilitation Medicine (preferred)
  • Consideration for those with CCT in General Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, or Neurology with rehabilitation experience
  • Experience in inpatient neurological or brain injury rehabilitation (Desirable)
  • Evidence-based practice
  • Stakeholder engagement skills
  • Patient-centered, outcomes-based approach
