An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self -motivated dietitian to join our small, friendly team at Liverpool Women's Hospital. The hospital, which is a teaching hospital, is the largest specialist provider of health services for women and babies in Europe. The post will involve working alongside an experienced band Macmillan 7 specialist oncology dietitian (working 0.4 WTE). The team includes dietitians working in Women's Health, who provide an inpatient service to the maternity and gynaecology ward and out-patient diabetes medical disorders clinics and a dietetic assistant. This is an exciting time as the service is undergoing a restructure and there are plans for a phased development of the service following the appointment of a new dietetics manager.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dietitian with excellent clinical and communication skills, experience of working in oncology in the NHS and of working with patients with complex needs. The role will involve working within a well -established MDT gynaecological oncology service, working closely with the clinical nurse specialists to provide a service to the wards and MDT out- patient clinic. The post holder will need to be able to work independently and as part of a team to provide a highly specialised service to patients with complex clinical needs, including palliative care patients and those with gastro problems such as stomas. The postholder will need to accurately assess holistic client needs using specialist knowledge and a broad range of nutritional assessment skills, measurements and techniques.

The post holder will contribute to patient centred service improvements, training, development of protocols, policies, resources, standards and audit and other work to support the clinical nutrition team. The post is also expected to include student training and health promotion. With the creation of new services and expansion of the team, there will be opportunities to take an active role in service development initiatives. We hope to further develop work in pre-habilitation and living beyond cancer programmes. You will be supported with your personal development goals and have regular clinical supervision and peer support.

Job Summary

To provide factually accurate, unbiased evidence based nutritional advice appropriate to the needs of individual. Advice will be provided using a patient-centred approach, in the context of multidisciplinary, multiagency delivery plans.

Job Purpose

To be a clinical lead in the Trust for oncology dietetic services to your own specialist area. This involves:-

Personally providing the dietetic service to in-patients and out-patients.

Educating/training other members of the multi-disciplinary team in specialist area.

Clinical supervision

Training of Student Dietitians.

Development and implementation of policies, protocols and guidelines relevant to clinical speciality.

Qualifications

Essential

• BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics/PhD Nutrition and Dietetics
• Current registration with HCPC
• Membership of BDA or equivalent professional indemnity insurance
• Post registration validated training in specialist area - (BDA validated or MSc equivalent)
• Supervisory Skills training, minimum introductory level

Desirable

• Supervisory Skills training advanced level
• Member of specialist interest group
• Educated to masters level or equivalent
• Attended leadership/management training

Experience

Essential

• Broad clinical experience, including post registration experience in speciality
• Evidence of multidisciplinary team working
• Experience of supporting learning of other healthcare professionals.
• Experience and evidence of continuing personal and professional development in practice
• Experience in the training of student dietitians
• Previous experience of conducting audits and or research

Desirable

• Evidence of service review/development
• Experience of clinical supervision of others
