Job description

Barclays UK Operational Risk oversees the Operational Risk profile of BUK, spanning all business areas, Retail Products (Cards, Loans, Current Account & Payments, Tesco Bank, Mortgages, Savings & Insurance), Business Banking, Customer & Digital, and Barclays UK Chief Operating Office. BUK has a significant transformation agenda including the integration of Tesco Bank. BUK COO encompasses Technology, Change, Operations, Data & Analytics, and the Office of the COO.

The role holder will lead a team of senior risk professionals to provide second line oversight of the BUK Chief Operating Office operational risk profiles, offering an independent view on risk management against agreed tolerances. The role involves partnering with the businesses, both directly and through their team, to ensure effective management of operational risk in the First Line of Defence. The role also includes thought leadership and management of BUK-wide operational risk activities.

As a ring-fenced entity, BUK has various committees and governance bodies on which the role holder will represent Operational Risk.

The ideal candidate will ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework, and internal policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide independent review and challenge of operational risk elements across the bank, ensuring adherence to Barclays frameworks and standards.
2. Identify and manage interconnected, horizon, and emerging risks to support the business strategy.
3. Analyze operational risk data to identify trends and emerging risks.
4. Assess business processes, systems, and controls for risk likelihood and impact.
5. Research and monitor internal and external sources for potential risks.
6. Review and challenge First Line activities, including RCSAs, risk events, issues, and participation in key meetings.
7. Engage with stakeholders effectively, including First and Second Line management.
8. Contribute risk-based input into projects, initiatives, and strategic decisions.
