This is an exciting opportunity to take up an influential leadership role and to work to deliver a sustainable future for the humanities, arts and social sciences at Lancaster University.

This leadership role is open to internal applicants only who must be an academic colleague within the newly formed School and also hold a substantive post that exceeds the duration of the term of the appointment. Applicants will normally be at Senior Lecturer level or above, however appointments will be made depending on the context, objectives and circumstances of the School at the time and on the skills and experience of particular candidates. Applicants need not at present be the EDI Directors in their department.

Term of office

The successful candidate will be expected to begin on 1 August 2025. The position amounts to a 0.2fte appointment and is usually for a three-year term, e.g. unless extended or renewed within the faculty’s leadership roles appointment process. At the end of their term, the role holder ceases their EDI Lead responsibilities, returning to their substantive role.

The role

The EDI Lead will be a key member of the Faculty EDI governance team; support the Deputy Dean and FRM-EDI in Athena Swan processes; monitor the implementation of Athena Swan, Race Equality and other charter mark action plans at Discipline and School level in all relevant areas of operation, especially PDRs, recruitment, promotion and progression of staff; support Faculty and School leadership in the implementation of the University People and Culture Plan across the School; act as the School lead on wellbeing and safeguarding; encourage a culture of shared interest and practice in EDI across the School, including through the Faculty EDI Forum; work closely with the Deputy Dean and Associate Dean-Education in engaging when required with Programme and Discipline Leads on student-related actions; and participate in relevant Faculty and University committees, working groups or projects as required.
