We are currently seeking a Principal HSE Design Engineer reporting directly to the UK Head of Process & HSED to join our safety team based in London or Milton Keynes.

About the opportunity we offer you:

A Principal HSE Design engineer is required to lead all HSE Design activities on projects including development of procedures and work templates to assist in EPC execution and mentoring junior engineers.

Role responsibilities include:

1. Be a subject matter expert in Safety topics / items to advise other engineers / projects on paths forwards.
2. Develop the Scope, Budget and Schedule for Design HSE activities on projects in line with contract requirements.
3. Coordinate and progress Design HSE activities required to complete the job.
4. Develop, check and / or approve discipline deliverables and studies.
5. Manage Project Changes and provide cost estimate of the change of scope to Project.
6. Prepare regular progress and status reports as required by client and Project Manager.
7. Participate in engineering coordination and progress review meetings.
8. Liaise with other disciplines for applicable engineering interfaces.
9. Liaise with client on project requirements.
10. Develop and analyze HSE solutions to specific job requirements.
11. Provide technical bid evaluations input on HSE Studies.
12. Review and approve all relevant vendor and / or sub-contractor data and deliverables.
13. Participate in HAZID / ENVID / HAZOP / SIL and design review meetings to provide input regarding HSE.

About you:

• Extensive experience in the Oil & Gas, Process Engineering or other industrial settings.
• Degree in engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in leading projects as technical lead or project lead including:
• Participate in Safety, environmental and operability reviews (HAZID, ENVID, HAZOP, SIL)
• Fire and Gas detector layout deliverables
• Hazardous Area Classification definition
• Active and Passive fire-fighting systems definition
• Mobile and portable fire-fighting systems definition
• Quantitative Risk Assessment and related studies
• Emergency Response Plan
• Safety related P&ID development, including selection of design conditions, hydraulic analysis, line sizing and pipe specifications, equipment isolation, vent and drain systems, cause and effects.

• Good understanding of Design HSE standards and regulations, industry codes and standards (API, NFPA, IP etc).
• Good understanding of ALARP design principles.
• Proficiency in MS Office software is essential.
• Good understanding of consequence modelling (e.g., PHAST / SAFETI).

Desirable Experience / Qualifications include:

• Knowledge and experience of environmental engineering within the Oil & Gas/Petrochemical industry.
• Experience designing segregated effluent collection systems and wastewater treatment technologies.
• Working knowledge of ISO 14001 requirements.
