Job description

NRL is seeking a Fire System Design Engineer to undertake consulting activities on projects as directed by the Lead Engineer or Manager, ensuring work is completed in accordance with client requirements, schedule, and quality procedures.

Work primarily focuses on the Oil & Gas/Petrochemical fire engineering and consultancy sector and may involve overseas travel.

Remote/Hybrid Position

Main Areas of Responsibility

• Undertake work as directed by the Lead Engineer or Manager.
• Conceptual active Fire System Design.
• Conduct site inspection visits and attend meetings.
• Engage with clients on pre-FEED and FEED projects.
• Build effective relationships with clients.
• Deliver work according to project schedules.
• Analyze and evaluate plant fire protection systems for compliance and effectiveness.
• Provide advice and guidance on fire safety matters.
• Liaise with stakeholders and prepare detailed engineering reports and drawings.
• Adhere to established quality procedures.

Essential Skills

• Experience with CAD and hydraulic calculation software.
• Conceptual fire water system design including demand calculations.
• Hazard assessment and Hazardous Area Classification.
• Experience with consequence analysis programs.
• Fire protection engineering experience, including Fire and Gas detection.
• Good knowledge of standards such as BS, NFPA, API, EI related to onshore petrochemical and oil & gas facilities.
• Experience in fire risk assessments.
• Fire Engineering or similar qualification.
• Willingness to travel.
• Relevant engineering discipline experience.
• Proficiency with IT hardware and software packages.
• Ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
• Good customer interface skills and commercial awareness.
• Competence in using business database systems.
• Integrity and confidentiality maintenance.
• Excellent organizational skills.
