Job description

Job Introduction

As a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant, you will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team on the Ward, providing high-quality support to the registered nurses in delivering care to a range of complex patients. You will work with increasing autonomy under the guidance of senior staff and contribute to the ongoing care and well-being of inpatients.

Your role will involve assisting in the care of patients with diverse and sometimes complex healthcare needs, including those with life-limiting conditions, patients at the end of life, and individuals requiring support to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions or enable a swift discharge. You will play a key part in ensuring these patients receive the appropriate care and support to meet their clinical needs, helping to manage their physical and emotional well-being.

In this role, you will take on responsibilities such as taking observations, assisting in the preparation and monitoring of treatment plans, and ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of patient care. You will be expected to show initiative, use your growing clinical knowledge, and support the Ward team in the day-to-day care of patients.

This is a dynamic and varied role where no two days are the same. Working closely with patients and the multidisciplinary team, you will have opportunities to develop your clinical skills and make a tangible difference to patient recovery. The position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) based at Gravesham Community Hospital, where our services continue to evolve to meet the diverse needs of our local population.

This role is part of our comprehensive 24/7 care service operating 365 days a year. You may be required to work day shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays as part of a rota.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, including medical, clinical nursing colleagues, and support staff.
  2. Actively seek ways to improve the quality of the service provided.
  3. Recognise when to refer to the trained nurse and contribute to assessment and care planning by communicating concerns from patients or carers.
  4. Report changes in patients' conditions to qualified nurses and ensure proper documentation. Maintain all interventions and care plans to required standards.
  5. Actively promote the health and wellbeing of patients attending the department.
  6. Remove dressings and apply simple dressings when trained and competent.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, recognize their own abilities, and work within their scope of competence. We seek a friendly, approachable team player who can work flexibly and ensure positive patient experiences at every stage of their healthcare journey. An NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent experience in a healthcare setting is required.

Experience dealing with the general public within a healthcare setting is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

Package Description
