Job Description:

This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in one of the busiest major trauma centres in the country. This is a substantive consultant 5 PA post, and the appointee will join a current body of thirteen substantive and three locum Consultants within the Plastic Surgery Department. We have a well-established plastic surgery unit serving numerous spokes from the main base at the Royal London Hospital.

This post will incorporate elements of general plastic surgery, with a focus on burns and scar management. The post will work across three of the Barts Health sites, with the Royal London Hospital being the primary location, featuring regular clinics and operations.

Experience working within an MTC environment and trauma microsurgery is essential, as the role also involves on-call duties for plastic surgery. The new appointee will be an integral member of the trauma multidisciplinary team based at Royal London, contributing to both lower limb and upper limb trauma out of hours.

Main duties of the job

General Duties

  • Responsibility for the care of patients, including administrative duties.
  • Leadership and organization of services in line with Trusts' Business Plans.
  • Development of personal interests within the specialty, including expanding the breast reconstruction service and engaging in innovation and research.
  • Management of doctors in training, including training, supervision, and mentorship.
Duties of the post

  • Provision of comprehensive and efficient surgical services.
  • Evidence-based care for inpatients and outpatients.
  • Adherence to NHS standards and local contracts.
  • Participation in the plastic surgery on-call rota, primarily at Royal London.
  • Flexibility to undertake other duties in emergencies and cover on-call duties as needed.
