Main Function (Assistant Buyer)
To provide support for Miller Homes Limited Commercial Department and assist with the procurement of material and plant, under supervision of the Commercial Director & Buyer.
Key Functional Areas (Assistant Buyer)
- Comply with policies and procedures and Divisional procurement implementation plans
- Take off and preparing material schedules
- Expediting materials ordered as required
- Managing plant
- Processing requisition orders
- Bulk order information entry
- Material budget entry
- Material tender enquiries
- Maintenance of documentation library
- Day to day consumables for site
- General office duties for the Commercial team
- Resolving invoice queries in a timely manner ensuring, as far as possible, suppliers are paid in accordance with agreed trading terms
- Collation of monthly plant hire data and communication of information to relevant Site Managers
Key Capabilities Required
(1) Skills, Capabilities and attributes
- Basic knowledge of construction practice and materials commonly used in the House Building / Construction Industry
- Basic understanding of the tender process including awareness of market place dynamics and external influences on pricing and compatibility
- Arithmetical competency is a key requirement in this role.
- Computer competency specifically in relation to MS Word and Excel
- Communication skills
- Aptitude to negotiate pricing where applicable
- Ability to analyse quotations, under the supervision of the Buyer / Senior Buyer, with particular attention being paid to price and specification.
