Job summary

Job description

Main Function (Assistant Buyer)

To provide support for Miller Homes Limited Commercial Department and assist with the procurement of material and plant, under supervision of the Commercial Director & Buyer.

Key Functional Areas (Assistant Buyer)

  • Comply with policies and procedures and Divisional procurement implementation plans
  • Take off and preparing material schedules
  • Expediting materials ordered as required
  • Managing plant
  • Processing requisition orders
  • Bulk order information entry
  • Material budget entry
  • Material tender enquiries
  • Maintenance of documentation library
  • Day to day consumables for site
  • General office duties for the Commercial team
  • Resolving invoice queries in a timely manner ensuring, as far as possible, suppliers are paid in accordance with agreed trading terms
  • Collation of monthly plant hire data and communication of information to relevant Site Managers

Key Capabilities Required

(1) Skills, Capabilities and attributes

  • Basic knowledge of construction practice and materials commonly used in the House Building / Construction Industry
  • Basic understanding of the tender process including awareness of market place dynamics and external influences on pricing and compatibility
  • Arithmetical competency is a key requirement in this role.
  • Computer competency specifically in relation to MS Word and Excel
  • Communication skills
  • Aptitude to negotiate pricing where applicable
  • Ability to analyse quotations, under the supervision of the Buyer / Senior Buyer, with particular attention being paid to price and specification.

  • General enthusiasm and motivation for Buying with the House Building industry
  • Build up relationships with other internal disciplines
  • The ability to take on board advice and guidance from peers within the business.
