Job description

Our team thrives on collaboration, creativity, and a shared passion for storytelling. As our Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial health of our growing company.

Role Overview

The Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing strategic financial insights to support decision-making. You will work closely with our production and management teams, handling budgets, reporting, and ensuring smooth financial workflows for multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the company’s financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the availability of funds for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts.
  • Project Accounting:
    • Create and monitor project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
    • Track production expenses, allocate costs, and report variances.
    • Liaise with production teams to forecast costs and margins accurately.
  • Compliance & Reporting:
    • Prepare and file VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
    • Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors.
    • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
  • Payroll Management:
    • Process payroll for permanent and freelance staff, ensuring accurate tax and pension contributions.
    • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with employment laws.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for cost savings.
    • Support the preparation of financial forecasts and annual budgets.
    • Contribute to strategic planning discussions by providing financial insights.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Education:
    • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent certification (qualified or part-qualified candidates will be considered).
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably within the creative or production industry.
    • Proven experience managing project budgets and cost tracking.
  • Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) and Excel.
    • Knowledge of UK tax laws, including VAT and payroll regulations.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for liaising with non-financial stakeholders.
