Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical fellow with demonstrable interest in geriatrics to join the Older People Services (OPS) department at the Royal London hospital at St3+ level. The successful applicant will work predominantly within ward-based teams and under the supervision of OPS consultants. There will also be an opportunity to work across our other areas, such as Frailty and Trauma Peri operative older people services (TPOPS). The post includes weekend working covering OPS wards on a rota with no overnight cover.

Main duties of the job

The post is suitable for experienced CT2 or ST3+ core medical trainees who have completed Foundation (or equivalent) and wish to gain focused experience and training in geriatric medicine. It is also suitable for candidates attempting the second part of the MRCP.

The post holder would work days in an acute elderly care ward within a team of F1s, F2s, and ST1/2, covering weekend on-call (1:5). No overnight weekend on-call is included.

CT2 level member of the Acute Care of the Elderly team, seeing patients admitted to the ward.

Working with junior staff to ensure high-quality patient care.

Joining consultant ward rounds, MDT meetings, and board rounds.

The Older People Services wards (52 beds) are based in the new Royal London Hospital and work closely with the emergency department and acute admissions unit. There are on-call duties 1 in 5 weekends. The post provides experience in acute geriatrics, including time on the Acute Admissions Unit, liaison work, and sessions in our developing clinic/older persons assessment unit.
