    Job Overview:

    The Sport and Teaching Assistant is a pivotal member of the school’s sports team, supporting the delivery of a wide-ranging and ambitious sports program. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic, proactive individual with a passion for sport and a desire to gain hands-on experience in a school environment.

    Job Specifications

    The role of a Level 4 Sports Coach Apprentice is very important in the life of the school. The apprentice should be approachable and friendly, yet firm with children and supportive of staff. It is crucial to avoid over-familiarity with children and to know when to seek help if issues arise.

    The apprentice should familiarize themselves with the ‘Amesbury Behaviours and Attitude Framework’ to understand our high-performance expectations.

    This role demands commitment and an interest in young children, offering scope for individual initiative and specialization within the school's parameters.

    The apprentice will assist with sports and extracurricular activities. While staff will coach sports teams, the apprentice will have authority to take responsibility for coaching under the Director of Sport's guidance, based on their ability and training.

    Attendance at induction and in-service training, as determined by the Deputy Head (Pastoral), is required.

    Responsibilities

    Sports Coaching & Support:

  • Assist in planning and delivering sports lessons and training sessions across disciplines like rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, and athletics.
  • Provide coaching for school sports teams, including preparing for fixtures and tournaments.
  • Support students of varying abilities, fostering skill development and enthusiasm.
  • Administration:

  • Help organize sports fixtures, communicate with other schools, prepare equipment, and maintain records.
  • Ensure sports facilities are prepared, safe, and tidy for lessons and events.
  • Pastoral Care & Supervision:

  • Supervise students during breaks, lunchtimes, and co-curricular activities.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging their personal and sporting growth.
  • Events & Activities:

  • Participate in sports days, tournaments, and school events.
  • Assist with after-school care when needed.
  • General:

  • Be an active member of the school community, promoting its values and ethos.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Director of Sport or Senior Leadership Team.
  • Support & Training

    We provide ongoing support and training, including:

    • School-based mentoring from experienced teachers and sports staff.
    • Regular in-house coaching and classroom management training.
    • Work towards coaching and teaching qualifications while gaining practical experience.
    • Additional workshops through the Sport Partnership to enhance skills.
    • Mentorship from Lions Sports Academy coaches.
