Job description

Hours: Flexible Shift Pattern (7 hr shifts), rolling rota, 7 days per week including Bank Holidays (24.5 hours on average per week).
Short week: Wednesday, Thursday (14 hours).
Long week: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday (35 hours).

Pro rata salary: £17,111.25 per year (£24,570 FTE). Salary includes an unsocial hours allowance for hours worked between 12 midnight and 1am.

Base: Currently Braintree, soon to be Chelmsford.

The Mental Health Support Worker is a rewarding role that can be challenging at times. It requires someone who is experienced, empathetic, and resilient to support individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support through active listening, de-escalation, and distraction techniques.
  • Signpost clients to appropriate services and complete internal referrals for practical support when needed.
Service Context

The position is part of our Mid Essex Sanctuary service, supporting individuals with long-term, complex mental health issues in crisis. These individuals may be under the care of other services or excluded from available services. People who have never experienced poor mental health but find themselves in crisis can also be referred.

Referrals are received via NHS 111 (option 2), mental health teams, and mental health liaison. If deemed beneficial, referrals may be made to outreach, community link, or substance misuse teams.
