Responsibilities
- Work as a member of an AIT Operations team to produce items conforming to all quality requirements according to the production plan.
- Follow LDS (local document system) describing methods and procedures, complying with standard processes, specific area requirements, and health and safety standards.
- Promote and adhere to Cleanroom Regulations, local health and safety requirements, and 5S policy within the work area.
- Report progress to Lead Technician / Team Lead as required and contribute to shop floor meetings.
- Maintain 5S disciplines and participate in continuous improvement activities.
- Support trainees within the department when needed.
- Be flexible and mobile across MAIT operational teams, supporting based on skills and workload.
- Work off-site occasionally, both in the UK and abroad, as required.
- Participate in shift handovers, providing inputs for job progression.
- Attend and complete training set by management.
Daily tasks include assembly and final assembly of aluminium composite panels, such as:
- Inserting panels with correct mechanical fasteners.
- Potting inserts.
- Bonding brackets, equipment, and inserts using various adhesives per specifications.
- Producing work to quality standards and drawing specifications.
- Maintaining health & safety disciplines in the composite area.
- Performing self-inspections.
- Reading and understanding detailed engineering drawings and procedures.
- Using hand and air tools effectively.
- Adhering to all company health & safety procedures.
- Meeting high tolerance requirements, typically better than 0.05mm.
Skill Set
Essential
- Experience in manual handling roles.
- Manual dexterity.
- Experience in a production/manufacturing environment with hand tools.
- Ability to follow procedures and work instructions.
- Comfortable working under tight timeframes with demanding quality standards.
- Initiative and previous relevant experience.
- High attention to detail.
- Relevant experience with carbon fibre.
- Ability to interpret detailed drawings and electronic work instructions.
- Experience working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Experience in a clean room environment and team setting.
- Relevant apprenticeship or NVQ qualification.
Desirable
- Experience in aerospace, space, automotive, or motorsport industries.
