Tutor of Engineering: Fabrication & Welding

Ref: 2425/003

Hours: 18.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE) with additional PTVH options to 0.8 (29.6 hours). Teaching time on 0.5 FTE = 12 hours; approx 20 hours with PTVH.

Salary: Up to £41,313 pro rata per annum* (subject to experience and qualifications). Plus generous benefits including:

  • 57 days annual leave per year pro rata (including bank holidays and efficiency closures)
  • Generous Occupational Pension Scheme
  • Financial support towards teacher training course fees if you do not have a recognised Level 5 teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE) - worth up to £7,000 over two years
About the role

Calling all fabricator welders and engineers! Are you a professional fabricator welder, or engineer with fabrication/welding experience, or a fabrication & welding / engineering tutor, seeking a new challenge?

We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational, and enthusiastic individual to develop the skills, knowledge, and professional behaviors of our future fabrication & welding engineers. You will teach a range of fabrication, welding & potentially engineering units across Level 2 & 3 programmes including apprenticeships.

This part-time contract at 0.5 FTE offers further PTVH hours to 0.8 FTE. You will inspire future engineers through teaching on programmes such as NVQ 2 Performing Engineering Operations, Level 3 Diploma in Engineering & Technology, Metal Fabricator Apprenticeships, etc. The ideal candidate will have confidence and experience in welding, sheet metal fabrication, pattern development, and broader engineering topics including Health & Safety, Engineering Communication, and Engineering Maths.

Staff with Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) via the Society for Education and Training (SET) are eligible for an enhanced salary of £42,842. Please ask us for further details.

About the person

You may be an experienced FE tutor or a newly qualified tutor. We especially encourage applications from candidates working in the fabrication & welding sector or with a fabrication and welding background. Experience leading projects/programmes is beneficial.

You should have a minimum of HND in a relevant Engineering discipline or relevant fabrication & welding industry standard qualifications and experience at Level 3 or above.

Ideally, you will possess a recognised teaching qualification and assessor/IQA awards, or be willing to work towards these with funding support from the College. Recent experience in fabrication/welding is a significant advantage.
