We are currently looking for talented Engineers to join the Plant Structural Integrity department at Rolls-Royce Submarines. As a structural integrity engineer, you will primarily engage in structural integrity assessments, including primary strength, fatigue, fatigue crack growth, and fracture assessments, in accordance with ASME III and R6 defect tolerance assessment code. You will support a wide range of programmes, from in-service support to new build and future projects.

You will also build and maintain Finite Element Analysis models to extract stresses for component justification. The work is diverse and challenging; you will be relied upon to respond rapidly to emergent issues, providing vital support to the Submarines enterprise.

Why Rolls-Royce?

What We Offer

We provide excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and comprehensive benefits, including bonuses, employee support, discounts, and flexible hybrid working arrangements to balance office and remote work.

Responsibilities
  1. Undertake mechanical assessments, including linear and non-linear finite element analyses.
  2. Utilize traditional hand calculations, commercial finite element software (mainly Abaqus), and bespoke analysis codes.
  3. Develop and support component designs, inform through-life management, and support submarine enterprise development.
  4. Develop methodologies for assessing submarine nuclear plant components.
  5. Communicate assessment outcomes clearly to diverse audiences within Rolls-Royce, industry partners, and clients.
Candidate Profile

At Rolls-Royce, safety, integrity, and simplicity guide us. We seek candidates who:

  • Hold a degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, physics, or mathematics.
  • Can prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Have a keen interest and expertise in structural integrity analysis.

Desirable skills include knowledge of failure mechanisms, practical experience with finite element methods (preferably Abaqus), and support experience for manufacturing, design, and safety cases. Membership or working toward chartership with a relevant professional institution is preferred.

Additional Information

We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. Applications from refugees and UK nationals or dual nationals (in MoD approved cases) are encouraged. A UK security check clearance is required for employment, which Rolls-Royce will support.
