Job description

Textron Specialized Vehicles Inc. is a leading global manufacturer of golf cars, utility and personal transportation vehicles, snowmobiles, side-by-sides, all-terrain vehicles, professional turf-care equipment, and ground support equipment. Textron Specialized Vehicles markets products under several different brands. Its vehicles are found in environments ranging from golf courses to factories, airports to planned communities.

Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd are seeking a Systems Engineer with a specialism in the electrification/hybridization of mobile equipment. The Systems Engineer will be based in Ipswich. In this position, you will be responsible for supporting the design of new hybrid and electric-powered turf care equipment, validation of design changes to new and existing equipment, and to resolve warranty problems associated with new and existing equipment. You will also be responsible for solving a variety of technical problems of moderate to difficult scope and complexity, and ensure projects are executed per the agreed upon timing, cost, quality, and product requirements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. The candidate will be responsible for systems design of hybrid and electric-powered turf care equipment;
  2. Manage vehicle requirements and cascade requirements to system, sub-system and component level requirements;
  3. Run vehicle level modelling using analytical and 1D modelling tools such as Amesim;
  4. Process and analyze test data to derive vehicle and component requirements;
  5. Develop and Manage design validation plans (DVP&R's) and utilize DFMEA's for components and assemblies;
  6. Develop and utilize functional specifications and new energy sources (i.e. Lithium battery, Zinc-air, etc);
  7. Work with suppliers to select and integrate components and systems such as DC/AC motors, DC generators, Motor Controllers, linear actuators, Vehicle control units;
  8. Work with the electrical design team on complex electrical harnesses - including low and high-power cable designs, and CAN-bus;
  9. Work with the Mechanical Team to evaluate packaging layouts, particularly in regards to electrical harnesses and systems;
  10. Support the creation of project timelines for engineering tasks;
  11. Investigate and review design patent opportunities and infringements and file patent disclosures;
  12. Resolve and document test issues/failures using 8D or other appropriate processes;
  13. Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, as outlined, and any other applicable legislation and regulations to support global product sales.

About You

As a Systems Engineer, we would ask you bring the following skills and experience:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering is required;
  2. Demonstrated competence in the electrification and hybridization of mobile equipment;
  3. Experience of designing system architecture with an embedded systems approach;
  4. Experience of designing for and meeting EMC compliance requirements is essential;
  5. Experience of selecting relevant components for production;
  6. Able to demonstrate selection criteria based on calculations;
  7. Self-motivating and able to work with low levels of supervision to defined objectives;
  8. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
  9. Ability to effectively communicate at all levels across TSV;
  10. You should have an innovative mindset and have a drive to make transformational changes;
  11. Inquisitive nature and an ability to research appropriate subject matter to keep up to date with technology;
  12. Full driving licence;
  13. CAD 3D package experience, preferably NX;
  14. Experience with Matlab/Simulink simulation software, FEA (electromagnetic or thermal flow analysis, Flow Tran etc.), and Lab view programming is desirable;
  15. Competence in lithium battery knowledge, function and technical aspects;
  16. Possess and demonstrate skills that provide solutions to a variety of technical and managerial problems of moderate to difficult scope and complexity. Solutions should show elements of uniqueness and creativity, and possess and demonstrate a complete understanding and general application of electrical engineering principles theories, concepts and techniques.
