Direct Line Group (DLG) has created a new Chief Controls Office (CCO) within the first line of defence as part of a group-wide risk and control transformation programme now in its second year. This provides a unique opportunity to be part of a skilled risk professional team that is redeveloping the end-to-end risk and control framework, including launching new RCSAs, control testing, a new integrated risk management system, and rebuilding risk management capabilities across the first line, fostering a robust risk-aware culture across DLG.

What you'll be doing:

  1. Provide risk and control management expertise to identify and assess risks and issues in the business areas of responsibility, ensuring these are escalated and recorded in line with the Risk Management Framework. Support the business to design suitable actions to manage these risks within the business risk appetite.

  2. Support key activities including the RCSA process in assigned business areas, enabling understanding of control environment, risks, and driving a culture of action planning and remediation.

  3. Support activity to deliver effective Issue and event management through governance, root cause analysis, control identification, and remedial actions to support good customer outcomes.

  4. Conduct trend analysis across risk and control areas, identifying key actions.

  5. Support deep dives into root causes of issues and control failures to strengthen the risk and control environment and protect customer and business outcomes.

  6. Maintain understanding of relevant risk appetite statements and KRIs, considering these when supporting risk and control assessments.

  7. Ensure a proportionate operational risk management approach that meets DLG standards and supports strategic goals.

  8. Engage proactively with business areas to provide risk management support, focusing on Business Partnering and stakeholder management.

  9. Work independently with relevant areas to influence risk identification, management, and measurement, providing challenge to align risks within appetite.

  10. Support the accuracy and embedding of Workiva (risk system) and data inputs.

  11. Be aware of audit and testing assurance programmes, support the Control Testing Team, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.

  12. Support the wider Chief Controls Office to achieve its vision.

Our hybrid model offers a 'best of both worlds' approach. When you'll be in the office depends on your role and team, but colleagues spend at least 2 days a week in the office. This role is flexible across London, Leeds, or Glasgow.

What you'll need:

  • Understanding of risk and control management principles, a strong conduct and risk culture, and good governance.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and support the business in understanding risk management's importance to business goals.

  • Ability to review information, understand urgency, and escalate appropriately.

  • Understanding of the three lines model and roles of business, Risk & Compliance, and Internal Audit.

  • High-level knowledge of regulatory bodies and legislation relevant to insurance.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills across all levels.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to interpret internal policies and communicate requirements effectively.

  • Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits
