Job description

My client, a large, well-respected Multidisciplinary Consultancy is currently searching for Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant to join their team of expert engineers, based in the busy, diverse city of Birmingham.

Essential Criteria:

- A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, or other relevant discipline

- Extensive experience within the flood risk and drainage sectors, including experience with design guidance, aligning with the relevant industry standards

- Demonstrable project management experience

- Experience of managing stakeholders and working with a range of public and private clients, with an acute commercial awareness

- Good working knowledge of software packages, including MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD, QGIS (and other GIS software), etc.

It would also benefit applicants for the role of Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant to possess the following skills:

- Chartered Membership of a Professional Body (such as ICE, CIHT, etc.), or actively working to achieve Chartered Status

- Excellent communication skills, demonstrable through work with a range of clients

- The ability to manage time well, remaining flexible and adaptable

In your new role of Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant, you will join an expert team of accomplished engineers and designers, with extensive opportunities to develop your career through Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The role will involve a number of varied responsibilities, including:

- Managing projects at all stages of the process (from initial inception through to successful delivery)

- Preparation and submission of fee proposals and tenders, drawing upon technical and commercial experience

- Contributing to, and overseeing, the completion of Flood Risk Assessments, Flood Scoping Reports, and Drainage Strategies

- Working with the wider team to produce conceptual drainage design (incorporating SuDS techniques), and production of the relevant drainage plans

- Preparing and reviewing reports, calculations, and drawings

- Completing Flood Risk Appraisals, providing practical risk mitigation, recommendations, and commercial advice to a variety of clients

- Line managing a team of expert colleagues, with a commitment to mentoring them during their Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
